Not the first time we’ve seen things like this: great performance against a supposedly strong opponent, followed by a lousy performance against an inferior opponent. Clearly, the gala night against São Paulo was still on our players’ mind, because they were somewhere else yesterday against Red Bull Brasil, who beat Palmeiras 2-0 fair and square. With that, Palmeiras slipped back into fourth place overall, as São Paul beat Linense 3-0.

Two rounds remain of the qualifying phase of the São Paulo championship. Palmeiras are free to train during the week, welcome Mogi Mirim on Saturday, then battle Ituano on the following Wednesday. São Paulo take on Botafogo/SP before receiving Portuguesa. If Palmeiras do their homework while São Paulo lose points in any of their games, the home advantage in an eventual semi-final is green. That’s the best we can hope for, as Corinthians and Santos have secured first and second place already.
