Bruno Oliveira joins the Squad
A new face was seen on the bench during last Sunday’s game against Cruzeiro: 20 year old midfielder Bruno Oliveira, a former XV de Piracicaba player, has joined the squad. Bruno spent the last two months doing tests for Palmeiras, and just recently signed a contract with the club until July 2015. Originally from the state of Bahia, Bruno is left footed and stands 1,80 meters tall. His shirt number will be 77.
Scolari would welcome Alex with open arms
Yesterday, Palmeiras’ coach Scolari admitted that he would like to have Alex, a former Palmeiras midfielder currently in Turkish club Fenerbahçe, back in the squad. He added: “Who wouldn’t like to have him in his team? He has a good vision of the game, a good pass, technical qualities. Of course I would like to have him here. He had fantastic moments as a Palmeiras player. I hope we have the chance to work together. This is something we could carefully look into.”
Alex is 32 years old and his contract with Fenerbahçe ends in June 2011. A few weeks back, the player on his web site expressed that he would not renew the contract and that he pretended to return to Brazil, preferably playing for either Coritiba, Palmeiras or Cruzeiro.
Valdivia about to complete 100 games for Palmiras
Tomorrow against Vasco da Gama, Valdivia reaches the number of 100 games played for Palmeiras. Between August 2006 and August 2008, he played 93 games, and he has played six games so far in 2010. The 100th game, Valdiva considers an important step in his aspiration to contribute to many happy moments, victories and trophies for Palmeiras.
Valdivia will however most likely start on the bench, as he suffered an injury in his right thigh about two weeks ago against Atlético-MG, and is not 100% recovered yet. “Actually, he shouldn’t be playing at all, but he is very eager to help the team out, so we’re letting him play for 45 minutes each game”, Scolari clarifies.
Felipão faces additional challenges in relation to tomorrow’s game: Marcos is still feeling pain in his left knee and will not be available. Also, midfielders Pierre and Marcos Assunção are both out for having received their third yellow card in Wednesday’s game against Vitória.
