Palmeiras 3-1 Guarani – homework done

Palmeiras did the homework and achieved the second victory in the Libertadores Cup. Luxemburgo repeated the strategy of playing with four forwards and it paid off. The first half was tough due to the ultra-defensive attitude of Guarani, but in the second half the Big Green found the much needed spaces and scored three goals.

Line-up
Weverton; Marcos Rocha, Felipe Melo, Gustavo Gómez (Vitor Hugo) and Matías Viña; Bruno Henrique and Ramires (Patrick de Paula); Dudu, Willian (Zé Rafael), Rony and Luiz Adriano

Green light
We are only in March and for the second time in 2020, a player score a hat-trick for Palmeiras. This time, Luiz Adriano was responsible for all of the goals scored against Guarani. Dudu and Rony also played very well, both assisting one goal.

Yellow light
The goal suffered in the last minute did not have any serious consequences, but it happened due to a lack of attention that can’t exist in a Libertadores match.

Red light
One would expect the Allianz Parque packed for a Libertadores night, but with less than thirty thousand supporters, there were many empty seats. Maybe the coronavirus situation reduced the interest for the game, but a better ticket pricing could encourage palmeirenses to go to the stadium. Palmeiras’ attendance average is down in 2020 and adjustments must be made.

Next challenge
Palmeiras’s third game for the Libertadores Cup is taking place next week, on March 18th, against Bolívar. The game will be held in La Paz, where the biggest challenge is not beating the opposing team, but the effects of the high altitude. Before the Libertadores game, the team has a game for the São Paulo state Championship against Inter de Limeira, on Saturday 14th.
