What promised to be a tricky game proved to be just that: offense against defence for most of the 90 minutes, Palmeiras trying to penetrate São Bento’s compact lines. Not surprisingly, São Bento so far were undefeated, with one victory and three draws in the Paulistão.
But in accordance with the Brazilian saying “soft water against hard rock, with time makes a hole”, Palmeiras finally reached goal through a decisive pass from Zé Roberto, a precise cross from Cristaldo and the deadly header from Dudu, bagging his first for the Verdão to secure the three points. With a total of nine points in five games, Palmeiras lead group 3. SPFC, Corinthians and Santos also lead their groups; thus no major surprises so far.
Palmeiras’ next game is on Sunday a week from now, away against Penapolense. Gives coach Oswaldo plenty of time to prepare the squad – and Arouca, spared yesterday but certainly on the pitch next week – for the clash.
Scoppia che la vittoria è nostra!
