Palmeiras 3-0 Avaí – sights still locked on target

Doomsday prophets have been resolute in saying “Those draws against Atlético Goianiense and São Paulo will cost Palmeiras the title”. Any inattentive supporter listening in would think Internacional had finally overtaken Palmeiras in the tables. The reality was indeed the opposite.

After reducing the gap to Palmeiras four points in two rounds, Internacional was still trailing EIGHT points. Never in the Brazilian League history a team lost the title with a gap that wide with only six rounds to go.

A draw or defeat to Avaí would certainly pour gasoline on the (still very modest) fire promoted by those in search of social media engagement numbers stimulated by rage-inducing algorithms.

Fortunately, our players and Abel Ferreira are very centered in their objective of taking this Brasileirão home. Incendiary comments have not and will not affect the performance and the confidence of the team.

Against Avaí, an early goal through a penalty kick signed Gustavo Scarpa opened the path to victory. Avaí were unable to offer much resistance and Palmeiras patiently built its case, securing the three points in the second half with goals by Dudu and Vanderlan (the left defender’s first for Palmeiras, assisted by Endrick).

With five rounds to go and 71 points, Palmeiras need only six more points to mathematically guarantee the title, even if Internacional should win all their remaining games. We feel confident in the fact that our third trophy in 2022 is just a matter of time.

Scoppia che la vittoria è nostra!
