Earlier this week, Palmeiras’ new forwards Merentiel and Flaco López were registered in the records of the Brazilian Football Confederation and thus cleared to play for the club. The two have been training for about a month at Palmeiras, waiting for the international transfer window to open which was a prerequisite for their registration. With the paperwork in order, they are now ready to attend coach Abel’s demands, possibly already tonight against América-MG in Belo Horizonte.
The timing is fortunate. “They come at a good time, as we´re currently without Rony and Navarro, injured. Two more players to give us other solutions in attack will surely help us”, coach Abel concluded in a recent press conference.

Especially for López, who joined from Lanús, the transition period has been important: this is his first time out of Argentina and away from his family. Adapting to the city, the culture, new teammates, training facilities, coaching staff… There has been a lot to take in for the 21-year-old.
In the last couple of weeks, Palmeiras promoted two friendlies, and each of the newcomers scored twice in these games, making a good impression on Abel. Will we see Merentiel, the 26-year-old Uruguayan who joined from Defensa Y Justicia, as a starter tonight?
