Tonight, Sunday 12 September, at 9 p.m., the Big Green step on the Allianz Parque pitch to receive Corinthians for the first leg of the finals of the Women’s Brazilian Championship. Although the derby has happened 16 times before, this is the first time the clash will crown a national champion. The return game is scheduled for the Neo Química Arena on 26 September. This is Corinthians’ fifth consecutive Brasileirão final.
Palmeiras have reached the Women’s Brasileirão final once before, in 2000, biting the dust against Portuguesa-SP. That year, Palmeiras won all the games in the first phase and the single games in the quarters and semis, against Santa Isabel and Vasco da Gama, respectively.
In this year’s edition, Palmeiras finished the group stage in second place, one point behind Corinthians, with 11 victories and 4 draws. Grêmio (5-3 on the aggregate) and Internacional (5-1 on the aggregate) were the opponents in the quarterfinals and semifinals, respectively.
In 2022, for the first time in history, Palmeiras will play the Libertadores Cup: reaching the Brasileirão finals secured us a spot in the continental tournament.
