Palmeiras have announced they will exercise the buying option for striker Iván Angulo, on loan at the club since mid-January. The Colombian is one of the highlights of his National squad, currently in Poland competing in the U-20 World Cup.
Angulo comes at a price tag of US$ 3 million and is expected to sign a five-year contract with Palmeiras. Colombian side Envigado have a history of revealing great players, such as midfielder James Rodriguez, currently (but not for much longer) at Bayern Munich. Reportedly, Manchester City were keen on securing a future deal with Palmeiras involving Angulo, but negotiations did not advance.
Coach Luiz Felipe Scolari stressed he will be cautious with Angulo and his transition. “It’s very different to play in the U-20 and the first team. U-20 is boys, very easy. The first team, something totally different. Angulo’s playing very well, but he’s not training with us. At the moment, I cannot say much”.
Angulo was the highlight of the Palmeiras side that won the U-20 Brazil Cup earlier this year. As observed by a Palmeiras member of staff of the youth divisions: He’s fast, objective, a killer. And is gifted with some 50 lungs”.
May you shine bright at Palmeiras, Iván Angulo!
