Palmeiras 1-0 Atlético Paranaense

Except for the two-three times that Marcos had to spring into action, the pressure was on Atlético for most part of the game. Palmeiras created quite a few chances and luckily, one of them resulted in Chico’s first goal in the Palmeiras jersey and three points in the bag: anything less and a storm of criticism surely would arise. And with good reason: Atlético Paranaense are a weak side and have lost all their games so far, not scoring a single goal. In addition, today Atlético played one man short the last 30 minutes of the game. The 10.000 spectators at the Canindé didn’t get the show of their lives – far from it – but at least palmeirenses could leave the stadium with a sense of relief.

Scolari needs to increase training with the aim of homing players’ finishing skills. Luan, Gabriel Silva, Adriano… They and indeed everybody need to step it up a notch if Palmeiras is to return from next Sunday’s game against Internacional, in Porto Alegre, with at least a draw. So far, Scolari’s objective (winning at home and drawing away) has been 100% met.
