President Belluzzo rushed to hospital
When the tide turns against you, nothing should be taken for granted; not even your health. Monday afternoon, Palmeiras president Belluzzo felt ill and was rushed to the hospital with chest pains. Yesterday, he was subjected to a heart catheterisation. Although the surgery went fine, Belluzzo will stay in hospital for the time being. Further information is expected during the course of the day.

New striker Dinei is presented
On Tuesday, the latest addition to Palmeiras’ squad was presented. Striker Dinei comes as a loan, but Palmeiras has the option of renewing the loan or even purchase the federative rights of the player at the end of the year.

Dinei expresses excitement in regard to this his greatest career opportunity so far. He has previously played for several clubs in Brazil and also shortly for two clubs in Spain. “Dinei has the characteristics that coach Scolari has been looking for: a striker that positions himself well in the penalty area, knows how to score and is a good header”, explains Palmeiras’ vice-president Gilberto Cipullo.

South America Cup – next opponent settled
The Bolivian team Universitario de Sucre is Palmeiras next opponent in the South America Cup. Universitario yesterday drew 2-2 against Cerro Porteño from Paraguay, having won the first leg 1-0 at home.

The first game takes place at the Pacaembu stadium, São Paulo, on the 8 October.
