Palmeiras, through its football directory and representatives, international director Marcelo Solarino, club lawyer André Sica and businessman Rodolfo Forte, announce that an agreement has been reached with Al Ain-UAE, liberating the midfielder Valdivia. There are still minor details to settle before closing the deal with “the Wizard”, who should be presented at the Club in the next couple of days. “Yet one more battle won”, confirmed president Luiz Gonzaga Belluzzo.

The details of the deal will be announced in the next few hours on the official web site.

Valdivia: a love story with the Club and the supporters
Valdivia’s story with the Verdão (Green Giant) is one of love. Brought to Palmeiras in mid 2006, the Chilean took some time to adapt to the new club. As of 2007, he was considered a fix player in the starting 11 and definitely entered the hearts of the supporters with beautiful plays, irreverence and a football that pleased the eyes of the most fanatic palmeirense.

The career peak of the holder of jersey no. 10 came in 2008 with the São Paulo Championship’s Trophy. “I’ve had one of my dreams come true, being champion with Palmeiras” said Valdivia after the 5-0 win over Ponte Preta in the competition’s finale.

With 93 games played and 24 goals scored for Palmeiras, Valdivia left the Club on the 10 August 2008, in a Brazilian Championship game that Palmeiras lost 1-0 to Botafogo. Even after having been transferred to Al Ain of the United Arab Emirates, the Chilean never hid his admiration and respect for Palmeiras. Though far away, he always manifested his desire to again wear the white and green jersey and reunite with the millions of palmeirenses who cherished him like a true idol.
