THE EVOLUTION OF BADGES AND INSTITUTIONAL SYMBOLS

Badges on Team Jerseys

• 1915 – The first badge used on the team jersey. The letters “P” e “I”, in white, adorne the left side of the chest on the green uniform of Palestra Italia.

• 1916 – For the São Paulo State Championships of 1916, shirts were brought from Italy, branding the symbol of the Italian Royal Family, the Cross of Savoy.

• 1917 – Yet another change in the shirt’s badge, where the Savoy Cross gives way to the letters “P” and “I”, within a green triangle.

• 1918 – Again, a change in the design, opting for the “P” and “I” within a white circle. The letters are in green and red, respectively.

• 1938 – Maintaining the circular shape, but inverting colours. The background turns green, sporting a white “P” and a red “I”.

• 1940 – Again, a change in colours, where now both letters are featured in a deep red.

• 1942 – The letter “I” is removed, indicating the name change of the club (from Palestra Italia to Palmeiras), and the colour of the “P” is again changed to white.

• 1959 – The badge of Palmeira’s jersey is altered once again. The traditional “P” is maintained, but within a totally new design, which remains until present times.

Institutional Symbols

• 1914 – Palestra Italia – The first early design of the institutional symbol of the football club, used on printed material, club membership cards and the official flag.

• 1942 – Palestra de São Paulo – Provisional symbol used during the period of name change.

• 1959 – Palmeiras – The current official institutional symbol.

    1. You bet I am, Keen! Swedish, but living in Brazil since 1998. Thus, I’m not really “outside of Brazil”. Anyway, it doesn’t matter; what does matter is Palestra and the green blod flowing in our veins!

Take care and come back often!

      Cheers,
      Kristian

Check out the links section on the blog and you will find several online stores that sell Palmeiras gear. Try the original store first. Write me back if you encounter any problems.

      Good luck, Mr Palmeira!
